glad to recommend Mr.
Deane, who has
now been connected with the Civil service of this Colony longer than almost any other officer, for what would be agreeable to his wishes, but I consider that the important post which he holds as head of the Police is not one that should be combined with another appointment such as that of the Treasurer.
M. Ackroyd has been in the Colonial Service since the year 1853, having then been appointed to the Supreme Court in Mauritius, but I had serious doubts whether it would be in accordance with the wishes of the judges of the Supreme Court here that the Registrar thereof should be the holder of another and totally distinct appointment, and before submitting the application to Your Lordship, I addressed the
